T8 light fixture question

does a T8 light fixture need to be a special fixture like T5?

T5 and T8 referred to the size, thickness i think, of the bulb. There are T5 and T8 fixtures to go with each size bulb so you can't mix and match. And a T5 HO bulb requires an HO fixture
