What are you using for UV? Does he ever get sunshine? What species and age? Diet? What do you gut load your insects with?

Is he acting "normal" or is he being quiet?

he is completely acting and eating like any other 4 month old veiled and I checked his old pics today and I noticed this swelling existed since he was a month old.

im using repti glo 10.0 and the only time he saw the sun was 3 weeks ago cuz outside temps in uae could reach 45celsius.
I feed him a diet of crickets, katydids and mealworms. the gut load is romaine lettuce, carrots and oranges.

I see three possibilities:
1. Edema. I had a friends Jacksons cham do this when he was primarily using carrots to gut load the insects. His was doing it on all of the legs though. We thought it looked like MBD, but this cham lived outdoors near the beach. He stopped gut loading with carrots, at his vets recommendation, and the problem disappeared.
2. An old injury that healed that way. He might have had a break for some reason and it just healed that way. Your old pics make this a likely scenario. Nothing to do about it now.
3. MBD. If he's not seeing the sun, this is a possibility. Is your bulb new? Is it a coil type? Does he go near it? I would also expect to see the lower jaw swelling and possibly something on the other limbs too, if this were the case.

Here is a good site for chameleon info:

Those people know far more than me, and they are more current too.

the swelling is also found in his other hind leg as well.
my bulb is 3 months old and is a coil type

I suspect that it is an edema. what shall I do about it ? i have never went to a vet before and annual checkups are around 75 dollars.
I live in the UAE and exotic vets are expensive. if it is mbd then why his front limbs are just fine. everything else in his body is fine except his hind legs.

Ahh. Sometimes those bulbs can burn reptile eyes. If this is the case with YOUR bulb, he might be avoiding it and therefore he might be D3 deficient and starting to suffer from MBD.

I would get rid of that bulb ASAP, replace it with a long tube type instead, make sure you are dusting your insects with a calcium supplement that has D3, and get him outside for some sunshine as much as you can. If its too hot in the middle of the day do it in the morning or evening. I like to put a potted plant or shrub outside and sit outside with them to make sure they don't climb down and off the plant. Even 20-30 minutes a day will make a big difference. And it doesn't matter if he hides in the shade the whole time. UV rays refract and bounce around outside, so he will still be getting UV even if he's mostly covered by the leaves. If you mist the plant and cham frequently it will also keep things cooler for him. My chams always liked to drink when I sprayed them on hot days during sunning sessions.
