I only adopted him a year ago. He came to me that way. It's very humid in his enclosure, however I do not keep his substrate wet to prevent shell rot. Wet substrate is not the way to go imo. But thank you.I'm with Gillian! Maybe daily soak could help too but you have to keep your tortoise much wetter. The substrate looks really dry to me.
I did NOT mean to upset you, I just wanted to warn you of the pyramiding. He was only adopted a year ago. He came to me that way, but thank you.
Please read the thread that cdmay's posted, called: "Pyramiding and my Experience," which will hopefully help you.He was only adopted a year ago. He came to me that way, but thank you.
I'm not upset. What makes you say that?I did NOT mean to upset you, I just wanted to warn you of the pyramiding.
I've done reading and research. That's why I'm a member here! Like us all I guess. Please read the thread that cdmay's posted, called: "Pyramiding and my Experience," which will hopefully help you.
I just to not want to hurt/upset those who have not hurt/upset me, and one may do so unintentionally, that's all.I'm not upset. What makes you say that?

As I said, he was recently adopted.....
If they only knew how humid it is in there!...lol I have to vent a couple times a day due to so much fog it begins to rain. It's downright tropical in there, as it should be. Despite the "too dry" substrate......He looks Egyptian for some reason...LOL!!! Just kidding.
He does not seem too terribly "pyramidded" like some others I have seen. Now that he is in better hands than before, the pyramids can be stopped!
You can keep the substrate moist without it being wet. You may just have to change it a bit more often.
By the way - he is totally adorable! I really love these guys.
Looks ok to me Lisa. You should keep the top layer dry to dryish. Not wet. If it's humid and he has a bath he can fit in to soak it's all good.If they only knew how humid it is in there!...lol I have to vent a couple times a day due to so much fog it begins to rain. The substrate, particularly the top layer, might be on the drier side but it's air humidity we are going for not damp/wet substrate.
That's my opinion as well. People don't understand that you can create humidity without having wet ground. Cover the top completely and your most of the way there!Looks ok to me Lisa.
