AWWWWW! What a big lovable dinosaur. It's pretty cold here right now, I think I'll just go curl up next to him for a while. Think he'll share his veggies with me?

Okay Greg, you take a lot of sweet pics. This has got to be the best one so far. Such a sweet face for such a giant.

I love it when I see tortoises all sprawled out like that. It truly shows how comfortable they feel in the environment their owners have provided. Super cute!

Aldabraman. How big of an area does a single adult adabra need to graze without overgrazing (so the vegetation will be able to renew itself without the yard turning into a barren dirt yard)? Would an encosure measuring 140 ft x 100 ft be large enough? Thats 14,000 square feet. Or would it need something at least twice that size?

I am sure Aldabraman can answer this question better than I can but it is really hard to say how big area they need for grazing without a lot more information. A piece of land in one area will produce a lot more grass and greens than one in another area. It would in other words depend on factors such as
- Where do you live?
- what type of soil is in the area?
- Are you planning to fertilize the area?
- Will you irrigate the area
etc

* That is a tough question for sure, and great overall answer. We have just over one acre dedicated to our 4.7 adults. We also feed hay, Mazuri, and lots of cactus on a regular basis.

* I will add that we strongly feel that keeping these giants on as natural of a diet as they would have in the wild is a key element in our breeding success and there overall health.

* Ample space is always very important for exercise.

Thanks for the response guys. I dont know that im just gonna go right out and get one. But i wont close the door either. My wife would probably kill me if i spent that kinda money on a tort. I would have to slowly warm jer up to the idea. Maybe if i take her on a cruise she will let me get one.

I currently have a 100 x 140 ft space available. Lots of grass and some weeds. Grass is mostly bahia but there are a couple other types mixed in. Mowing slows down for a few months in winter but the lawn never entirely stops growing. Bushes along one side and a couple orange trees. I have a 19 inch sulcata in ther now by himself. But i dont know if it would be a good idea to let them share the space. I would maybe have to figure something out.
