I've been told that Ptolemy, Jennifer, Ophelia and Apollonia are strange names for pet tortoises, but, to me, it's a judgement call, 'cause I think all names are equally valid.

Bob, the Wonder Tortoise, is a name that always makes me smile.

I'm thinking of naming mine Rufus after my grandfather's python.

Well, I think he really had a python. I never saw it. When I was a kid he said Rufus got loose in the house, and we need to stay out of the basement.

I started off calling my new Russian baby HS, after Han Solo. But I figured, that doesn't make sense for a Russian. So I now call him Viggo. After Viggo Mortensen.

I love Viggo Mortensen.

I named my Leopard hatchling Rorschach, after the psychological ink test. After I got him, I sat there trying to "discover" what his shell markings looked like.

My brother would laugh at this, he's always saying I like raising torts so I can make soup out of them.

My western Herman is call Michaelanglo, I bought my boyfriend a teddy bear tortoise 2 year ago and we named him Leonardo, we both love torts and have recently purchased one, so in decided as he had a stuffed animal brother, he had to be Michaelanglo. If I expand my tortoise family in the future, it would be rude not to name then raffael and Donatello. Michaelanglo is the first ever ninja tortoise!!

The family I just got 2 sullies from had named their 3 torts Big Lefty, Middle Lefty and Little Lefty. They respond to their names so I cant change them, but I only call them Middle and Little.
