Hello, I have a baby star tortoise called Clover, she's about 6 months old now.

I've noticed over the past few days that she's walking around a lot without opening her eyes. She's still active, walking around the enclosure and she has been eating ok. Her eyes don't appear swollen at all and if I bathe her she will open her eyes after 5 minutes or so.

The internet says it could be a number of things:
Not enough humidity - I spray once a day and the sensor is usually about 60%
Not hot enough - During the day the hot spot is at 33C and about 29C at night. I'm from the UK so it's getting colder here now but the thermostat should take care of that.
Wrong substrate - I'm using orchid bark.
Not enough Vitamin A - She eats lots of greens but I only tend to reptavite it once every couple of weeks and calcium her food every couple of days.
Too much UVB - My UV strip light is 6% and I leave it on 12 hours a day, it's 6 inches above her enclosure.

Right now I'm going to start reptaviting her food every day and spraying twice a day to keep the humidity up, see if that helps. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Try rubbing a little vaseline (petrolatum)on the eyelids. It sounds to me like they might be sticking together for some reason.

Hi Scott:

Welcome to the Forum!!

I think your UVB light is too close to the floor of the habitat.
