I got this little russian guy a couple weeks ago. He's 1.5 years old, eating good and very active. I have however noticed he has a spot on his shell. It was there when we got him looking back at pictures. It's kind of flaky. There's also bubble looking stuff through the shell. The shell is not soft. There is no odor or drainage. Should I be concerned for shell rot? It kind of looks like an abrasion, if that the case do I treat it so it doesn't get infected?

Looks like he might have knicked it on something.
Just keep an eye on it. If it starts to look worse or bigger, try some athletes foot cream on it.
The other squiggly bubble looking lines are normal and nothing to worry about

Thank you! We're just getting familiar with him and it's kind of like having a new baby in the house, not sure what's normal and what's not.

Whenever in doubt ask. That's what we are here for. This forum has all the correct, up to date info that you will need. Most info in other places out there is wrong or not updated
Be sure to read our care sheet for your Russian. Be sure you are not using the coil cfl type bulbs, the halogen bulbs or the mercury vapor bulbs. All bad for tortoises.

Okay, I've done alot of reading but lots of conflicting information. Where are your care sheets located on the site? This is really a great site, im happy to have came across it. From what I've read the arcadia uvb are good, I have dome lights now though. New setup, I've changed so much stuff since getting him in his enclosure. My tort is also apparantly a climber, not sure if thats common. I've had to safe proof different things.

Hello!
Here go the care sheets:
1. https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/the-best-way-to-raise-any-temperate-species-of-tortoise.183131/
2. https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/info-for-new-people-please-read-this-first.202363/

Russian tortoises are well-known climbers, don't worry :) And they are escape artists. So yes - secure everything :) However, setting the correct environment (light/heat/humidity/space) might calm down them a little.

Arcadia and ZooMed UV lamps are good (we talk about tube T5 HO lamps here :) ). Yet your domes can be used later for a basking spot and ambient heat lamps.
