RE: Pet

Ditto. Also, look at the breeders section to see if any members have anything you want. I would also buy from tortoisesupply.com Tyler, the owner is a member.

RE: Rescue

Your local Craig's list is a good start. Most of them on there need rescuing.

Re: Sizes

Well you have to be able to care for one, not just have it there in a box. Read about each one and figure out which one you can take good care of.

Re: Rescue

Rescuing a tortoise, then bringing it into a WORSE place isn't rescuing at all. Rescuing isn't for a person new to tortoises. This is because most rescues have illnesses that are more difficult to care for.

RE: Sizes

I suggest you look in the pinned topics at the top of the Russian section and read about the care. Then if you have any questions afterwards, everyone would be glad to help.

RE: Sizes

You could look up on google, bing, etc. whichever tortoises you are interested, and find all of the information you have been requesting here. You can find care for them by simply typing "Hermann's tortoise care" in a search engine or here on the forum.

Re: Sizes

The internet is good, but often has mixed ideas. Here, on TFO you will find facts that are guaranteed to work, not "theories".

RE: Rescue

I would be more open to new tort owners taking on a rescue. As long as they do the research and recognize the responsibilities that they are taking on. Otherwise you are promoting breeders that sell to people that don't understand what they are taking on. Not all breeders.

Re: Rescue

Dont get me wrong, Rescuing is fantastic, I am a little rescue myself, but I dont advise people to go and grab a sick tortoise as their first (tort) pet.
