Welcome to the forum!!

A hatchling feels a bit soft at first, that is, the shell has a bit of a "give" to it. This could last anywhere from a month to the whole first year. Its very important to give the baby sunshine, because his calcium won't work without the vitamin D from the sun. If that's not possible, then you MUST buy a UVB light. Without either the light or the sun, the calcium he needs to make his bones strong and his shell hard just goes right through his system and gets pooped out.
