Hello tortoise forum I adopted a Red Foot a few weeks ago and he has shell damage on the carapace. My local exotic vet said they shed the scutes and it's normal. I know that is incorrect for this species. I'm currently not doing anything for treatment because I'm not sure if it even needs a treatment because there are no cracks or weeping areas. To me it looks like a weed Wacker or a lawnmower got him. Any advice is appreciated. Will he regrow the scutes over time?

Looks to me like a dog or rat chewed on him. No, the broken parts will not regrow, and I would pour an antibiotic over the white spots and just enjoy your new. companion..the blue stuff called Nolvasan is really good for that. It's the stuff Drs and Vets sterilize their instruments with it's sometimes called chlorhexadrine...

I would think by now, if something was going to happen, it would have.
I would personally keep an eye on it, but beyond that, enjoy your new friend...
