Well, it was the Jerry Fife special talk day. For whatever reason no other speaker attended or presented. At first that could seem disappointing. But in fact Jerry Fife gave two really spectacular presentations.

The first was a review of some basic natural history of leopard tortoises from his own observations in the wild and what we has read, & what he and his brother 'Richard' have seen and imported themselves. Then a bit of vicarious travel adventure to the northern most part of the range validating with first person observation truly giant Leos up to 28/29 inches long. These completely blow away the one from Addo E. Park in the southern most part of the range.

The second talk was a travel adventure narrative of Komodo dragons in the wild. Seemingly in protest the SDTTS banner at the front of the room fell during the lizard talk.

Jerry is a really good narrator, building interest and mystery as he speaks, to be resolved along the way.

The entry fee was waved for the purpose of not disappointing attendees, who were few as parking became nightmarish later in the day. Maybe if SDTTS does a similar event in the future the Tortoise Angel event will be in the afternoon (free turtles might be a better motivator for dealing with the parking). It might also be advisable to not pick a holiday weekend.

We were headed to the desert to ride on Easter so I missed it!
