Scale fallen off

Hi everyone!

I went this morning to feed my small leopard tortoise and do a brief check up on it when I realised that it was missing a scale right above its nose. I appears to be okay because there are some underneath, but it does however look fresh and I am slightly worried. Does anyone have an idea of what this could? And, should I be worried? Thanks!

Oh wow. Those don't usually shed, but it looks ok underneath. I wouldn't worry about it.

It most likely fell off due to it rubbing against something, looks totally fine and harmless, if you notice the skin looks a little raw as in some flesh is shown, just add a little Neosporin

Agree with the above posts. One more thing if you do use Neosporin, be sure it doesn't run into his eye, bcs it will burn/irritate it quite a bit

That's what I thought. I have never seen this before but it doesn't look too bad.

Okay thanks! I'll try that.

I had this same thing happen to one of my leopards about two years ago, and it was probably the same scale. It took some time, but it completely healed. Never did find out why it might have happened.

That's really interesting. Mine was fine the night before, then the scale was gone yesterday.
