I found this little guy in the middle of the street. Picked him up, took some pics, and let him go near a lake by our house. What kind of turtle is he? I don't think he's a red-ear slider, but I'm more up on my torts than my turtles.

I'm not a water turtle person, but it looks like that might be a painted turtle. (Chrysemys picta ssp. and C. dorsalis)

Except they don't usually have a solid red plastron

That is a most lovely painted turtle! Gorgeous color.
I dunno which one it may be, midland, western or eastern. Not southern, no stripe on top of his shell. :p
Great job... hopefully he stays there for a bit.
