My Red Eared Slider who is about 1 year old wont sunbathe in his new above tank area. He has gone through a lot of tank changes lately and refuses to sunbathe at all. It has gotten bad enough that his shell has started to flake off! I need help! :(

Not every RES loves to bask, I have a few you would think they were part fish. Also the flaky shell is also usually due to growth, not basking.

I'm sure he's fine. He probably does it when your not home. RES do "shed" their scutes. I find them all the time. Have you ever put some food on his basking area? Does his basking spot have any privacy? Post a pic so we can see it?

try using tinypic.com or photo bucket to post a pic.

I rehabbed a couple wild RES females. I don't think they did anything more than stick their heads out of the water the entire time I had them, and they were fine.
