what light should I use?

You can use a Mercury vapor bulb for both basking and uv rays or you can use separate uv ray long tube and then a bulb for heat....it will all depend on your individual set up and space...:D

I thought it might be too strong :) I'll probably use a smaller light or an MVB that's tilted for more of an angle (and less intensity)!

Just keep in mind that having your MVB at an angle will wear the bulb put faster.
