I've had a similar one for 20 years for newborn puppies. Very safe.
I've been using it for my Sulcata at night when I bring him in. He won't move it he's on it. He'd prob camp there all day unless I carry him outside.

Are you using it as a pad for him to lay on? Seems like they are meant to hang and radiate down. I wanted to build a platform and mount it under it and let it radiate up without him actually touching it.

I use them in my sulcata night boxes. They work great for me, but for them to be effective, they need to be close to the tortoise and in a well insulated, draft free box.

The type I have is a pad, designed for using in dog houses. I have a blanket on it and Mo loves it.

You are talking about a heat at or pig blanket. Radiant heat panels are mounted on top of the enclosure and radiate heat down. The were designed for enclosures with large boids and pythons in mind.

Most heat mats specifically say not to use anything on top of them. Your blanket might be a serious fire hazard. Be careful, and follow the manufacturers caution statements.

Tom do use a thermostat or do you let yours run wide open?

I use a Kane heat mat on bottom and the RHP on top and run them both on the same thermostat. I set it to about 72 in summer when every day is nearly 100 outside, and about 86 in winter when the days aren't getting as warm.

Thanks for the info. He will have to be inside for the winter here due to snow. I use Boaphile caging for my balls, so I have a couple extra Ranco thermostats laying around that should do the trick. Trying to nail this indoor enclosure down before the weather turns. In Cleveland it could be 85 and sunny today and -10 and snow tomorrow. lol

Tom, my heat mat is made to use under a dog bed, and actually came with a fleece sleeve that prob got chewed 20 years ago by basenji babies. LOL

Its really low heat, comfortable enough to keep dogs warm, and only has one temp. Very safe and I love it. ...and so does Mo. LOL
