Baby black rats I saved from red ants last year. I saw the mom coming from the pile of mulch and released her and hatched out her 9 eggs.
^5, the problem child, formally called the middle child. Then she started being so hateful, she would launch herself out of the tub to get a snap at you.
^See?? She's after me again. (I'm the camera woman, you don't see me in any pics)
^true to form 5 the problem child is a rebel, we placed her on the wood pile and she came right back to us, slid past our feet and crossed the dirt path to the tall grass.
^6, formerly the most hateful, out done by 5 as she grew up.
^6 patiently behaving himself.
^this is where rebellious 5 ended up, and directly across from it...
^ the wood pile, this is a large wooded area behind my house, with a small stream just down the hill and tree frogs and lizards abound. I think they have a good chance at making it to adulthood. It was bittersweet, but they looks so happy, so natural, I could see they knew exactly what to do. They had all recently had a big meal and a shed, all ready to go. If you hadn't noticed, 7, the shy, much lighter colored female, is still with me.
Good luck little meanies. I miss them already.
