Hello I have a pair of breeding redfoots, I am using a substrate sand and wood chippings at the moment, but have heard sand and soil is a good substrate as well. If so can I buy the soil from my local garden centre or do I have to buy proper reptile soil......

Hi Becky:

If you have clean (free of herbicides/pesticides) soil outside, you can just use garden soil. I don't know what kinds of products are available to you in the UK, so can't advise you what to buy. Here in the states, my favorite substrate is orchid bark.

If you DO buy top soil, get the kind with no additives.

Some people do not like sandy substrates, but I have had good luck with them. Is this for indoors or outside?
