Red foot tortoise or turtle?

I was raised in Texas and in my time there have caught 3 turtles or tortoises but couldn't tell if it was a tortoise or not. They would all have red spots on there legs and head and we found most in the woods but a baby one in a pond. I don't have any pictures for now.

That's a beautiful example of a three toed box turtle (Terrapene carolina triunguis).
