Radiated Tortoise Ideal Substrate

How is the substrate in this set up here and what plant is used. Is the substrate any good?
Can I just use any play sand in a home depot store. ??

I have just researched about Exo-Terra. They also have something similar to zoomeds Eco earth. It's call plantation soil. Is Exo Terra's plantation soil better or is zoomeds Eco earth better for mixing with the play sand as substrate for radiated tortoises?
Any experience?

That's a fairly good substrate for a radiated tortoise. Yes, play sand from Home Depot is fine. Just make sure you wash it to get all the dust out. You're still asking questions about Eco Earth and such, so I'll just snip you some pics of radiated tortoise habitat to give you a sense of what I'm talking about when it comes to substrate.

Just a note on sand... Be sure to get the "play" sand and not mortar sand. Mortar sand contains silica which is nasty stuff to breath.

Is play sand the same sand that is often found in children sand boxes in neighborhoods? How do i tell if the sand is ok for this purpose of mixing, just regular sandbox sand ok?

Play sand is packaged and labelled "Play sand". It IS what people put in children's sand boxes. It is clean and free of any glass particles. It comes in a bag and the bag is clearly labelled - PlaySand.

You don't know what might be in beach sand. It could be crawling with all sorts of crap.
