Hi everyone, and Happy New Year! My question is this: how old is a cherryhead that is 3 inches long? This is my Doce, and the breeder said she was a month old when I got her, which would make her/him 3 months old now. Does that sound right?, or is my little tort older?
Thanks!ImageUploadedByTortForum1388545528.108409.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1388545539.624571.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1388545554.247505.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1388545574.892917.jpg

RE: Question

That looks and sounds about right. At 3 months, my reds ranged from 2.5 to 3 inches. Cute guy you got there :D

Question

Great! Sounds right on target then! I am having such a difficult time keeping the temps and humidity right. I have a closed chamber with a reptifogger going. Then I constantly worry about shell rot. Thank you for your reply. I must be doing something right.

RE: Question

What are the issues with unstable temps/humidity? I thought closed chambers simplify the problem for the most part. Also, make sure to keep some type of journal or document things, in case you aren't doing so. I did that with mine for the first 6 months just for peace of mind. I still keep up with monthly weights/lengths, but stopped writing down what I fed, daily temps/humidity, etc. But yeah, you're doing pretty well from the looks of it.

Something is wrong. Check for holes or openings in your chamber.

Re: Question

Is that your water bowl ? If so I would change that dude out with a terracotta plate . Tortoises have died in them things. They are more for lizards and snakes . If you are having trouble holding in humidity with s fogger going then you have some big holes to fill . Post a pictures of your enclosure and we will help you fix it .

Question

Ok.... I will post, and no, that is his pool where I soak him while I am watching!!!

My enclosure is a little over 3'x2'. I have a 75 watt che on the side with the log hide, a humidity/temperature gage, and on the other side, I have a 50 watt red light. I find that sometimes the temps get in the 90s on the side with the che, but in the 70s on the other side if I don't have the red light on. I worry sometimes that it is too warm when the red light is on, so Ivam constantly checking and plugging in/unplugging the red light. Do you think that I need to get a lower wattage of che? Thanks again for all of your help!
