At school today when we were let out for lunch we found a box just sitting ontop of our car. There is a little guy in there with food. He is semi wet, we dont know how long he's been in the shoebox. This is the baby:

We have absolutely no clue what he is. His feet are webbed like an aquatic but have very sharp claws like a land. We have never seen one before. Any help on what it is?

in florida we have a similar looking turtle that we just call a Mud Turtle. they hide in the mud and in creeks and have a dome shell like that.

There is a pond by our school and I was kinda worried that someone just took him for the pond and shoved him in a box. But a mud turtle would make since being near a pond and he's still wet.

I thought it might be a stinkpot.

I honestly have no clue. Stinkpots, Musk Turtles, and Mud Turtles all kinda look similar :/

I was thinking stinkpot myself, but it could be a musk, there care is very similar. They are slow swimmers so they don't really like deep water, a large but shallow enclosure would work nicely, see if they are native and or protected before making any long term plans about it.

A stinkpot and this species of musk turtle are the same thing.

Stinkpot or mud. Could you return him to the pond?

Make sure it's a native turtle before you go putting him in a pond.

He's a pretty little guy. Glad he wound up in caring hands.
