I was wondering if any of you have swimming pools in your yard and if the sulcatas will avoid them. I have them in an enclosure now but was thinking of letting them roam next summer. your thoughts

I am interested in this, I let mine roam he's still small.
he does laps around the pool.

I want to block off the pool with a low sliding wall, as i have no fence on the pool. my landscaping makes it inaccessible except for where the gate used to be.

My sulcata hates baths, but if he is determined these guys seem to do whatever they please..

i wouldnt let them roam near a pool without supervision they could slip,,,or if there thirsty on a hot day they might think its shallow and just walk in.

Some are smart enough to avoid curbs and such, but not always.. I would NOT chance it. Pools and Dogs.

Some tortoises have a built-in instinct to stay away from the edge of an in-the-ground-pool, but others, even within the same species, seem to have no depth perception and just walk right off the edge into the pool. I've seen pictures of Leopard tortoises actually swimming, however most tortoises sink right to the bottom.
