We got a baby RF. He has some white\yellow spots on him. . Do you think this is new growth or fungus or maybe both? ? He also lost 2 toe nails this week. . They were bleeding one day when I got home he must had snagged them on the rock or something. . His nails are so long. How do I keep them in check?

I can't tell if it's new growth or possibly marbling coming in. The one that would know is @N2TORTS The nails will get warn down if you have some flat rocks to walk on and also feed on.

Looks like marbling, which people love!
Please post a picture his enclosure. Sounds like he is getting caught in something.
Cute!

It looks like your lil guy starting to show some marbling....I would however get him off the shag rug (especially during feeding times). As Barb mentioned ......Get a flat piece of flagstone, it can serve two purposes - One as a feeding table to keep beaks in check as well as something thing for your tort to walk on and naturally keep nail growth proper. I really don't see any extended growth from the pics. Just some tort trivia .....Females will have longer nails than males as this aides when time for her digging nests.

There was just that one peice of kale to keep him happy and still while I was shooting. .. I will get pics of the temp inside home tomorow. .. we are in the process of building him a more suitable home bc of coarse I had no idea what I was doing until I found this site. ..

It does look a little bit like mold to me. Can you scrub it off with a soft bristle brush?

Have you read this: Tortoise Library
