My female Florida box turtle surprised me by laying a clutch of eggs in the first week of December. Yesterday one hatched and two other eggs have just pipped.

Here's my new hatchling.

Hatching is hard work!

No, that is moist vermiculite. A type o soil used for plants. Many people use vermiculite to hatch reptile eggs. It helps keep a high humidity which the eggs need to hatch.
