I was reading a post in the enclosure thread and got sorta freaked out. The post was about DT possibly having oxialis in his enclosure. Apparently it's toxic to DTs. Is it toxic to Sully's too? Here's a pic of Ralph eating what I think is oxialis. It looks like clover, so I've been letting him eat it. He's eaten it before and has never shown signs or symptoms of anything being wrong. He loves this stuff.

You can somewhat see it in these pictures:

It is not really toxic but it contains a high amount of oxalic acid that binds calcium into calcium oxalate which is not available to the animal. I would remove it from the enclosure. This holds true for all animals.

No, what Ralph is eating is called burr clover. Not toxic, but not tasty either.

Here's what I could find on whether or not you can eat burr clover. Its the second or third one down:

Thanks! :)

He really seems to love the stuff. This is the first year it is growing. Not sure where it came from, but if he likes it I won't try to pull it out. It would be an impossible task, since it's all over the backyard.

Bob and my other tortoises have been eating it since I moved to Oregon, and they seem fine...that's 3 years of eating it...
