Hey! I have a Red Footed Tortoise named Carrot. She is 7 inches in length and around 800 grams (~1.7 lbs). I live in the southeast USA and want to get her outside as the temperature and humidity starts to rise here. I also want to make sure she is getting the space she requires and deserves to be happy. My question is in regard to an outside enclosure for her. Would it be recommended to incorporate some chicken wire as a roof for the enclosure to protect her from any large birds/predators? I would hate for anything bad to happen to her that may be overlooked and possibly prevented.

Thanks!

It's different for everyone. Depending on your situation.
I live in south Florida and I have no issues with even very young tortoises being outside 24/7. But I'd reccomend you build as secure as you can on the side of caution. And even then. Bring your small RF in at night.
This video shows my primary outdoors enclosure. Built mostly to keep out cats. Only because they like to poop in the enclosure
