Is it alright for my sulcata to be eating the grass in my backyard provided no chemicals or fertilizers have been sprayed on it at all? Also is this ok for a staple food, and just offer grocery store greens occasionally?

All of my grazing tortoises only eat the grass and weeds in their pens. Any old kind of grass is fine. They'll even eat foxtail grass until it goes to seed. Its a good idea to feed grocery store greens or veggies at least once a week so that you can give the tortoise his supplemental vitamins and calcium.

Bob grazes my yard and I throw him grape leafs, weeds, produce, flowers and watermelon...I also add other stuff...but I believe your question has been answered. The kid next dorr mows my lawn in front then dumps the bag in Bob's pen, so they even eat dead grass...

The majority of RVs diet is bermuda grass. She is happy, healthy and fit. She gets 'treats', but is content munching the grass. She doesn't care for hay, altho I continue to offer when I have the chance..
