Hello, I am wondering about my little Nougat not wanting to eat anything but Mazuri. He has always eaten great since I got him a few months back, I only give Mazuri 1-2 times a week at most. Lately he has left all the good stuff and held out for that, a few days even. I hate that he is starting to feel light, (Yes I am going to get a scale!!)
Should I give in and feed him that more often? or hold out longer? He does dive into it.
Did my picture post??
Not sure what I am doing wrong, Yvonne??
Thanks Na

Use the IMG link under your picture on photobucket.

Have you tried REALLY soaking the mazuri and then mashing it ontop of the greens? You can also bust it up while its dry and dust the greens with it like you do w/ Ca powder. I would mist the greens first, so it sticks. That way, your little guy should be able to smell the mazuri and might be tricked into eating greens.

Your photo link is for HTML, not for forums. On Photobucket, under "Share This Image" you can click "More", go to the "Get link code" tab, and copy/paste the text in the "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" boxes:

As for not eating, you could try making the Mazuri into mush and spreading it over some greens so he's "forced" to eat greens along with it :).

Have you tried various other types of greens? If he doesn't like one kind you could pick up different types of greens to see if he'll eat something else.

I feed Mazuri to my smaller tortoises also...the same thing has happened to me with 3 of my smaller tortoises and Queenie. She was such a good eater when I got her from Danny, but then because I wanted to make sure she would eat Mazuri during the winter when greens were scarce I offered her a few kernals of Mazuri and OMG!!! She acted like the stuff was heroin. She'd eat the Mazuri and nothing else. So at first I tried tuff love and just offered her greens and no Mazuri...for days...she was tougher than I however, and she lasted longer than I did. So I gave her some Mazuri...But I know that couldn't last and it wasn't good for her...she was also getting light. so what I did was moisten the Mazuri until it was almost soggy...actually it WAS soggy:D and I spread it over her greens and did that daily less Mazuri and more greens and it took about a month but she is back to eating greens without the Mazuri...but you have to stay tough...good luck and keep us posted...

I had the opposite problem trying to get Moose to eat Mazuri so I soaked the Mazuri pellet a long while, then spread it on a into a baby leaf from the Spring Mix and rolled it up like a burrito - and she ate most of it. Now all I have to do is what Maggie does - spread it over her greens and she eats both. (I've decided Moose must be a girl - her tail is a microdot, sigh). Hope Nougat catches on soon so you don't have to worry about weight.

(I add photos by going to the New Reply or Start Thread and click on attachment, then browse until I find the photo on my computer and click on it, then it uploads as an attachment to the thread - no photobucket, but you need to be sure your photo is the right size which you'll know because it will either post or you'll get a message at the top of the "new reply or thread" page that tells you what size it should be).

Thanks for all the replies, I think I got so excited when I got this little guy. He would eat everything!! I didn't really change the way I did things, but his tastes changed. So I will do what has been suggested and he should do fine.
Thanks , and as far as the photos I guess I just have to do more, so I don't forget. I was able to do one thread that had my text right near my photo, but can't figure that out again. Sandy, I used to always add my photos that way, but shrinking them was a pain, so someone suggested this other way, I just don't have a brain to remember how.
Thanks Na

Kadaan,
I didn't know that option. Good to know.

Na,
I hope all those advises from others helped Nougat eat. Torts seem to go through phases w/food.
Penelope my DT is not too picky now because there are less choice of plants out there in the backyard compared to spring/summer time. I'm trying not to feed as much spring-mix, too, and letting her just graze outdoor as advised by local tortoise & turtle society folks.

That is a great picture of Nougat. He is adorable. I had the problem that Charlie would not eat dandlion greens. So I tried to roll the Butternut Squash in the greens, the bugger actually picked the BNS out of the greens. Good luck!

lol. One suggestion though--I would stop chopping up his greens. Its good for his little beak to tear the leaves. Both my babies have gotten their spring mix straight up from day one, and Nova was only like 6 weeks old when she got here.
