Hello,
I am going to be buying a Russian tortoise sometime this month. But before I buy it I am trying to do all the research I can to learn about them. I want to get the enclosure set up before I buy one. My question is I am trying to figure out how to buy lighting. I read that a self ballasted uv-heat lamp is a good choice but I don't know about wattage. Or even if that indeed is a good lamp. Can someone please help?
Thank you

welcome. that sounds like an MVB (mercury vapor bulb) which provides heat, light and UVB for vitamin D to process calcium. Usually a 100W is sufficient for 1 Russian enclosure which is not as large as an enclosure for a larger tortoise species which might require more power.
