Anyone help, I've just acquired a small tortoise, he was unwanted :( ... I have beardies so don't know much about torts. I think he is a spur thighed tortoise... His shell is around 5 inches long and I was wondering how old he may be. The old owner is unsure of this!!!! ????? .... I have his habitat sorted to make him happy xxx

Hi Lynn:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know where you are?

You've come to the right place to get help with your new tortoise. We just need to know for sure what kind it is, as there is no "one size fits all" way to take care of tortoises. Each species requires its own special care.

And some people refer to the African Sulcata as a spur thigh, and yet the Greca tortoises are called spur thigh...and these two types of tortoise are extremely different from each other.

Lynn:

Do you have a Picture Manager program on your computer? You just need to open the picture, change the pixels to a lesser amount and save it. Then you post THAT saved copy of your picture. Otherwise, you can use photobucket.com or tinypic.com, free downloads, add you picture to your account there then copy/paste the
