I have gotten a lot of response to found sulcata. I live out in the desert not a regular neighborhood. We do not have poles to put pics on. we have our post office and we have been checking it everyday. We have also had people out here move out and leave horses, so it is a possibility that the people moved out. Not much that gets out around here survives due to predators. So we are building an enclosure outside for his well being and I do have the room I am on 1.25 acres. I was just asking for some advice on caring and enclosures for them.

Hi..again. :) I am sorry if in the other thread, we maybe were not coming off as not being too friendly and welcoming. We see a lot of Desert Torts being mistakenly called sulcata, and other species ID wrong (even from pet stores), so we tend to be cautious. We want to give you correct information and each species has a slightly different care requirement.

We also have several members who have torts currently missing and know how easy it is for somebody to believe a lost pet is actually a homeless one.We don't want you to spend money and time, along with becoming emotionally attached to an animal whose owner will be showing up tomorrow.

We just want the best for both you and the tort. I haven't checked yet, but have you asked questions in the area dedicated to the sulcata?

Hi and welcome. If you read the threads in the sulcata section, you will get a lot of info. Sulcatas are diggers, so you will want to bury your boards into the ground. How deep depends on how big. My little Squirt though can dig a nice little dip into her enclosure though. Secondly, you could probably use 2x12's for your walls as yours is probably pretty small yet. The bigger the better. Then lastly, you need to make it predator proof. You don't want anything to dig in and you need a secured wire lid for the top. Something like a screened door. Their diet is high fiber and they eat grasses, hays, and dark leafy greens. You should be able to find the entire list of foods in the other threads. You will need to put in some type of hide for him to get shade and a shallow water bowl that he can get into and out of easily without flipping over. He should be given calcium supplement without the D3 if kept outside. I also give mine a vitamin supplement. Good Luck and post some pics of your set up!
