Hi there , just wanted to tell everyone that we finally got our baby tort.
I had been researching Leopards and had my heart set on one but alas there are none available here at the moment. The enclosure was all setup and ready.
We just had our local reptile expo and as it ended up we came home with a 3 month old redfoot. He/she is 54g at a size of 2 3/4 inches. Cute as a button and eating like a little piggy, I'm so happy.
I'm turning the big five oh in a few months and have wanted a tort since I was a little girl. So that's my story and I'm stickingto it.
The enclosure I had setup went through a few changes in order to house this little guy, changed the substrate to spaghnum moss, upped the humidity and bought a second ceramic heater to replace the basking light, as well as only leaving the UVB on for few hours a day. I'm basically following redfoottortoise.com care sheets.
So far does that sound pretty good?
We've had him/her for 7 days and everything seems good. This morning during the soak she finally had a bowel movement. I was so pleased had to call hubby to see it. I had been stressing a little that I hadn't seen her go. Her good appetite and the fact that she was bright eyed and active helped me to stay calm and just be patient, not something I'm good at.
Anyway sorry to be so long winded but this is a dream come true.
Thanks for reading.
