So, my daughter and I just did this...
New parents to Testudo Hermanni. That is her name too, Hermanni (Manni)... No real experience to speak of until now. Just lots of reading... Our enclosure is about 2.5'x6'... couple of huts, mounds, and little bathing area... We constructed a cover but, really NOT keen on using it. Don't want predators, etc. to get at Manni, but...

Looking to expand the enclosure this weekend in order to provide more space and some stretch of grass. We're in SouthEast Texas and have a private yard. Any suggestions on covered/uncovered.
The tort is a juvenile +/- 4 inches.

First, welcome to TFO! You've found the very best place to learn how to care for Manni.

If you have predators like raccoons, coyotes, eagles, hawks, stray dogs (or any dogs, including your own), you should put a cover on the enclosure. 4" isn't very big or heavy. Also watch for rats or ants.

We'd love to see pix of your enclosures, both indoors and out. We might be able to help with buying supplies. Where did you get her? If it was a petstore, almost all of them give poor advice on care, and even worse advice on supplies to buy. They want your $$$. They will sell you overpriced, possibly even dangerous decor like water dishes, lights, etc. We can make safer, more economic suggestions for you.

And post some pix of Manni! We'd love to see her. Include one from above her, and one taken from below her, showing her tail area.

Here's a link to our care sheet for Hermann's.
