We welcomed a new member into our family today. A sulcata. Welcome Sid! (Official name is Darth Sidious, just to stick with the geeky Star Wars theme!)

He arrived today and so far seems to be doing well. He has been exploring his new home and eating and pooping. What a life!

I will get some exact measurements and some more pictures soon.

For now, here goes:

Sid came to us from the mountains of Montana. His owners cared for him well and loved him but were unable to keep him any longer. So a quick flight and here he is!

We've decided to hold off on the pup, for now. We still intend to get a Dane, but we want to make sure the timing is right.

Thanks Corey

My advice to anyone who doesn't want to own a Sulcata: don't go and meet one in person. Once you do, game over.

Thanks. I wish I had the photography skills that DeanS and RedfootNerd (and many others on this forum) have. They make beautiful torts look even more beautiful due to the fact that they are such great photographers!

Wow congrats rob. You are getting all the things I want, a sulcata and a great Dane? I am very jealous. Looks like you have a nice big outdoor area for him, what are your winter plans?

Winter plan is a large heated shed attached to an outdoor pen, similar to Bob's setup (Thanks Maggie3fan). Future plan is to add a greenhouse into that mix, attached to the shed to prolong sunny time. (Taking a page from NETorts for that one.).

Backup/emergency plan will be a large setup in our unfinished basement.

For now he has his outdoor pen with an attached heated box. (Thermostat in the box is set to 75, but box has been staying warmer than that.). Now I'm just beginning to try and train him to put himself to bed in there.
