My sister gave me a new Three Toed Hatchling for my birthday. I would have liked something older as these little guys really scare me. Well, heres Bindi Sue...in a few years I might have to get rid of the "Sue" part.
She is a darling tiny pumpkin and looks much less fragile in the photo on the substrate! I hope she grows fast and healthy so you can pick her up without cringing for fear she'll break. So tiny!
Wow that tiny one is bold with the food! Glad to hear about the strong appetite. Any idea how old it is? I'm intrigued you got a tort for a gift. Couldn't imagine that happening to me!
Cool looking baby! I see you keep him on the moss stuff. I want to make the switch to moss from coconut fiber as the stuff gets all over him! Do you wet the moss down as you would the cocofiber or will that cause it to break down? I bought some, just haven't made the switch yet. Almost scared to as tonight was the first time mine ate. I would hate to screw him up for another week! lol
I put it in a plastic tub and wet it with hot water. Then I squeeze it out until no water comes out. Then I pull it apart and fluff it up. I put it in a little plastic tub and I put the tub into a bigger vivarium with a low wt. heat emitter. It was about 85 degrees when I looked a little while ago. If it looks like it is drying out I mist it with warm water. She is just starting to come out on her own. I usually had to did her up every day to feed her. I also notice that when it is really warm she eats more and comes out a lot more. But mostly she stays dug under. I like the moss because it doesn't get in her eyes and stick to her. Try not to give too many meal worms as they are too hard to digest. I got a load of red wigglers from the net and made an indoor compost bin and I take the little ones and cut them in half and now she eats those and a pill bug or a wax worm and 1very tiny meal worm. These little bitty hatchlings are so scary to start off with aren't they? Keep us posted cause I need help too.
You can say that again! They are cool though. I have a bigger one, about 8 I would guess. She will stay out all day, run around the house, eat every day if I let her. This little one has me all stressed out though! I thought the turtles get stressed what about the owners, lol.
My oldest Eastern Boxie was 60 years old but never came out from hibernation last year so we are asuming he didn't make it. Nora my ornate is 35 yrs. I had to give her to a friend who has a very big boxie garden because my yard was being renovated. Now I just have a three year old three toed, and 1 year old eastern and the "baby"....
