I have a Russian Tortoise that is co-habitating with my 10 box turtles. I tried separating the pen, but he ALWAYS finds a way back over to their side. I feed them separate food and for a long time, the Russian only ate his food, so I was happy about that. Now, however, he goes for their food over his, which concerns me because they get chicken in their diet. I know he is only supposed to eat green leafy veggies (and he also consumes every plant I put in his pen). He is a huge eater. So, the Tortoise and the Boxies are all healthy. They've been together now for over a month. I'm planning on giving the Tortoise to a member of this group who lives in Dallas. I'm just waiting to go up there to take care of some business. So am I doing harm to the Tortoise by allowing him to live with the boxies and now he may be eating some chicken in his diet? He may pick through it, but I'm sure he ingests some. Thanks for any comments.

Depends on how much protein he's getting...in the wild, European torts do occ. eat carrion/bugs/slugs, so a little may be no reason for concern.

Also, you could remove him during feeding time until the box turtle's finish, then put him back in.
