How deep do you keep the water in the tank? I have put my two stinkpots in a new 40 gallon long aquarium with aound 9-10 inches of water (which is deeper than they had in their other container) and they seem to have a hard time getting to the surface to get their food. I have fake driftwood for them to climb on to get to the surface for breathing (which they climb up on and hang out). My two stinkpots are female and are pretty much grown. I know that stinkpots are not really good swimmers and like to walk on the bottom, but mine act like they do not know how to swim. I guess I made a mistake by not keeping them in deeper water as they were growing up. When I got them they were the size of a nickel. I have seen videos on the internet which show tiny little stinkpots swimming around and getting to the surface to grab their food without any problem. I am now having a difficult time figuring out what to feed them (food that sinks to the bottom). I give them raw shrimp. I tried clams which they did not like. I bought some minnows and ghost shrimp for them to eat, but they ignore them and now the minnows are getting big so I have put all but two of them into the pond ouside.
Carol I have a 40 gallon filled to the top for my musks. They prefer to walk around the bottom of the tank but can swim if they want. Just provide them with a way to grab a tree branch to hang out if they want.
Actually the tub he's in right now is only a foot deep so there is only about 9-10 inches water max. When I used my 40 for my razors I had the water like 13-14 inches deep no problem, key is to have a lot of logs plants to climb, once they get use to it they can swim fairly well. I feed floating pellets, I also have sinking food for my fish but I do see them eating the pellets
