My Russian tortoise really cracked me up this morning. in the winter I usually mix herbal hey with grocery store greens. I sprayed the greens with water and then drop some herbal hey on top and mix it around. I did that this morning with spring mix. My tortoise came running up to the bowl, you know she's starving :), and started to eat. she paused for a minute, grabbed a big piece radicchio and shook most of the hay off of it. She did this a couple more times before I could quit laughing long enough to take the ball away and mixup things better and tear the lettuces down smaller. Has anybody else's tortoise done this? Or is mine just weird?

My Leopard doesn't shake it off, but very carefully picks the bits of green out of the hay. It Is not completely effective, because I cut it up small. It's funny though, and there is always a pile of hey left with nothing green remaining.

If I wet down the hay pretty well my tortoise will eat iit by itself but is not thrilled about it.she is very spoiled :) I prefer junk food too so I guess I can't be too critical.
