Hey y’all! Via Instagram, seen several Asian owners of tortoises raising them on rubber grid mats. And they look pretty AMAZING! What gives, you think? Is it aesthetics? Easy maintenanc/cleanup? Softness for their plastrons & feet? Attached are photos of ones seen in Thailand, Bangkok, Malaysia, etc. Thanks in advance for your input & thoughts.

Bad idea for many reasons. As is mixing species and feeding the wrong foods, which is also prominently displayed in the photos.

I think it's only for the keepers' convenience. I wouldn't want to have to walk on that all the time. Tortoises, even if not diggers, like to snuggle down into something.
