Mating dance

why is my female turtle doing the mating dance (fluttering her claws) in the face of my male? I thought only males do it? Can somebody explain this!

I guess you are talking about a Trachemys, Chrysemys, or Pseudemys. Both sexes will very frequently do this courting behavior and to either sex. They will even start when very young.

My redear does that to my diamondback, cracks me up, as the db just ignores it.
