Is there any one working with brown mountain tortoises in Canada?
There tolerance for colder/humid weather. They fact they are prehistoric and one of the earliest species of tortoise. There exaggerated scales. There personality , one of the few reptiles that nest and defend there babies.None of the breeders in Canada are, to my knowledge, breeding this species and I don't think you'll be able to import it. C&C, Prairie Hill, and Tortoise Passion are the three well established breeders in Canada, each with a different breeding focus (C&C, for example, is mostly leopards, Prairie is one of the only established pancake and kinixys breeders, etc.). You could email them to ask if they know where to find one. Tales & Scales in Toronto sometimes has different torts as well but I don't know who they get them from.
Is there something specific about this species that you're most interested in?
I also don't know of anyone in Canada working with the species. Will @Kapidolo Farms is breeding them. He had some beautiful babies at the show this weekend. I don't know if he can get them into Canada or not. Can't hurt to ask. There tolerance for colder/humid weather. They fact they are prehistoric and one of the earliest species of tortoise. Living off of Lake Ontario I have very humid weather. If there’s any species you think would work outside part the year I’d appreciate any suggestions of species that are similar.
Yeah I’m probably going to adopt a Hermann.I also don't know of anyone in Canada working with the species. Will @Kapidolo Farms is breeding them. He had some beautiful babies at the show this weekend. I don't know if he can get them into Canada or not. Can't hurt to ask.
The Mee come from lower areas than the Mep. The Mep are more cold tolerant, but they also get bigger. Both subspecies still need it relatively warm, so I don't know if that matters in your climate. Both subspecies will be very difficult to house in winter in your climate due to their enormous size and their enormous space requirements. I like them too, but I don't keep them because my climate here just isn't suitable. Too hot in my summers and too dry all the time.
I'd recommend something that stays a more manageable size in your climate. Something that could be outside in summer and indoors the rest of the time. Any of the Testudo would be great. Burmese stars or pancakes would work too.
I do not. Try Anthony P. at "The Turtle Room" for that. He's on FB. That's who I would call for something like that.Yeah I’m probably going to adopt a Hermann.
Do you have any experience with keeled box turtles by any chance?
It can be easier to get Russians than Hermanns in CanadaYeah I’m probably going to adopt a Hermann.

my only issue with Russians are their digging and escape abilitiesIt can be easier to get Russians than Hermanns in CanadaRussians are super friendly little dudes with a lot of personality and have similar care needs to Hermanns.
Prairie Hill breeds Hermanns. In Ontario, sometimes the pet store Tales & Scales in Toronto has Hermanns, but I have no idea who they source them from and the mark-up is sometimes an additional $200 CAD over buying direct from a breeder + shipping.
If you want to import, you need an import permit. Restrictions are pretty intense if the tortoise is not already a documented captive bred pet on your care (no wild caught torts allowed).
Yeah ... My Russian loves to dig and there is no denying itThank you for your help and dedication
