Hi, My name is Judy and I'm from Pennsylvania. I'm new the forum and just received a new baby Cherry Headed Tortoise. I'm having a problem sexing the baby. I would appreciate any help that I can get. Im thinking it's

Hi Judy:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

Your baby is still to small to give you an accurate sex answer.

Ok, thanks. I'm new when it comes to babies. I have a juvenile red legged that is 4 inchs. At what age can you determine the sex?

More size than age, really, but it'll be at least a couple of years, and possibly as long as 5.

Best think of a "unisex" name.

Welcome to Our Little Slice O' Heaven.

You can always post a plastron picture of your 4 inch Redfoot. :)

If I had to take a guess :p I'd say female :D

They develop the sexual characteristics at about 5-8" long or about 5-8 years old depending on the type it is- the Brazilian (cherry-head) shows up younger and smaller than the more common Northern types. To make matters more interesting- Brazilian females can look a lot like a male in captive conditions.
