Will male Russians display mating " ritual" such as light front leg nipping, circling and mounting attempts if the other is a male? I exposed my male to what appeared to be another male in my large field at my home. They seem to be enjoying themselves and throughout my male started to display this behavior.
Thanks, Jason

That can also be known as aggression. Russain torts (or any tortoise, really) are territorial animals who on;y seek out 'company' to mate. Males will display 'mating' behavior to another male as a sign of aggression :)

I prefer to use the term territorial behavior instead of aggression. He is showing dominance over the other tort to drive him away from potential mates in the area. You shouldn't keep them together unless you have a very large outdoor enclosure.

No that 's aggressions because before that happens the dominite male has already tryed looks , stares , taking food and water , head bobbing , mateing behavior and ramming , and biting , and taking the best hide .
