looking for a tortoise

Hello!

I signed up for this site because I was planning on purchasing a russian tortoise from a pet store next weekend and thought it would be good to join a forum. After reading about the tortoises, I have found that some folks think that it is not good to purchase them from a pet store. So, I am wondering if there are any other suggestions as to where I could find a tortoise in Houston, TX?

Its not such a bad idea to purchase tortoises from pet stores. There are different schools of thought on the subject and it just all depends upon which way you personally think.

If the tortoise is healthy, bright and alert I see nothing wrong with it.

But first thing you should do is go to the vet and get it de-wormed. Russian tortoises are usually wild caught and come into this country pretty "dirty."
