That bulb falls into the same category as a compact fluorescent. Some people on the forum recommend against the use of those types of bulbs due to a chance of causing major eye injury leading to health issues shortly after.

The two best choices (in my opinion) for indoor uvb lighting would be the tube style fluorescent or a mercury vapor bulb.

Sunshine is best and if your tortoise can get some sunshine two or three times a week, you won't need indoor UV at all.

We live in Georgia. They are outside every weekend weather permitting. I guess I will be visiting the store again.

The only thing I am having a hard time with is being able to secure a hood on a tort table because it doesn't have a top.

You just need to be creative.

Let me share what I did.



I use PVC pipe.



I make my own hood.



Some of my indoor enclosure.

The best UVB lighting is the sun, if you can take your tortoise out 3 or 4 times a week, 30~60 minutes. You don't really need any UVB lighting. This is according to Tom.
