Hello,
My 10-year-old Russian tortoise has been sleeping all day in his hide for the past several months. At first, I thought he was attempting to estivate, but he continued sleeping in his hide all day, even after June/July. He only comes out when I take him out, and he only eats when I feed him from my hand. I tried lowering his heating lamp to increase the temperature in his basking spot, and I tried giving him more baths, but this didn't work. Also, he seems to become much more vigorous when I take him on walks in the backyard. He crawls around and attempts to eat any weeds he can find. I tried moving his hide in his basking area, and he still went to his hide, so I don't think it's a problem of him preferring a cooler spot. What might be the problem?
