Hi all,

Not sure where to start really.:(

I got My Leopard Halloween 2008 from a pet shop....I only bought her as she looked ill (She also had a snotty nose) i didn't even have her an hour before we took her to the vets.He gave us some stuff to treat for RNS after a couple weeks of treatment she got better, then 2 months later i spotted she had a couple bubbles coming out of one of her nares so took her to the vets again where we got more Baytril.

Anyway since that day she has always had a snotty nose,Mainly in the mornings (when she first gets up) and just before she goes to bed.She is OK the rest of the Day, Very active and Always eating. Also she does get quite snotty when she needs a poo/is Constipated.

I Also think she has light sensitivity as she never wanted to move when i was using a clear/white bulb..she would always hide away from the light.I am now using either a Red or Green bulb (Depending what i have left) and she seems alot happier.

AND at the moment i'm using non-printed newspaper as a substrate...it's the only thing she gets on with.

I've tried Sand/soil Mix, Soil, Hemp, Kitchen Towel & Beech Chips. With all of these Her Eye's look puffy and start to water...The vet said she could be allergic to them???

Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong with her/What's up with her?

Thanks:):tort:

I am sure others will respond but I seem to recall some leopards just have problems with runny noses.

Too get really good answers when America wakes up :), you are gonna need to give some more info on your husbandry. What are your temps like? Your humidity? What type of bulb, regular or MVB? Post pics of your habitat. Anything you can think of.

It may be that you are keeping her too cool for the level of humidity you have. Remember moist/hot=good, moist/cool=bad. Leos get respiratory infections easily if kept too moist and too cool. I don't let my habitat get below 75F~24C. I keep the basking spot about 100F~37C to 105F~41C.

I use coconut coir as a substrate and my 2 do great on it. No problems at all. I also use New Zealand spagnum moss in the humid hide. Tends not to mold as easy as other substrates.

Hope that helps some. I know others will have way more info for you than me. TFO has many knowledgeable people! And many more leopard tort fanatics! :) Good luck.

Thanks!

Her temps are between 35 & 40oc and about 28oc in the cool end

The Bulb i'm using at the Moment in a Infra-red Bulb and i'm using a 10% UVB Tube

Not sure what her Humidity is......I have found that when she Pee's on the newspaper & the humidity goes up she doesn't seem as snotty.

My local petshop stocks Repti-bark & Orchid Bark would they do?

Also she's getting a 6ft X 2ft X 2ft House delivered either Saturday or Sunday.....How can i keep the Temps up in this?

Thanks again!

Forgot to say....Sometimes when she eats she gets snotty too.

It only happens if her food is cold...i always have to rince/wash it under the hot tap before giving it to her!

Can you post pics of your leopard and her enclosure and I was wondering if you could tell us what she eats. You said that she get's constipated, how often does she poop? I have a leopard and she poops once a week while I am soaking her. Do you give your leopard soaks? I am not an expert but I do have a Leo too:)

First of all... your torts should be passing fecal matter daily.

Your temps sound good. Don't now if that 40c is directly under the bask or not.

Is the mucus clear? When was the last time you had a fecal test done on that tortoise? Sometimes the presence of parasites can cause RNS syptoms? IMHO, a good vet will do a fecal test for parasites before prescribing baytril for just a runny nose.

Thanks.

40oc is under the lamp and it's about 37oc around it.

I give her a Bath every other day and a shower every Saturday for about an Hour.

Yes it's clear and doesn't seem to bother her as when she had RNS she would always try and wipe it away.

She will poo about once a week sometimes twice.....She eats a Mixture of Grass(Lawn) Redi-Grass,Florette Lettuce,Flowers & Weeds.

When she is Constipated she does act Gravid, Pacing,Digging and Doesn't eat Much.

Here's a Picture of the Infamous Squirt LOL

Scrap that, Couldn't choose just one lol Here's a Couple Links

Herpard I'm no expert but alot of what you describe can be attributed to worm infestation, including the clear nostril discharge
