Hi Alireza:

I just love that little tent you have for Jared to hide in! What a nice hiding place. However, I must admit, Jared is living in an awfully small enclosure. For a tortoise his size he should have about 3 or 4 times more room than you are providing for him. Even if its just a temporary set-up, he needs more space. In such a small habitat there's no way you can give him a temperature gradient. He needs to have a warm side and a room temperature side, but his small enclosure only allows for one temperature because the light covers the whole thing.

For such a small space, two lights seems like over-kill.

Hi! I agree with emysemys that your enclosure is a bit too small. But, so was mine, and I just built a whole new one, so I can help you out!

The cheapest way to get a bigger enclosure is to buy an x-mas tree bin, some other kind of storage bin, or a cement mixing bin from any home improvement store. But, if you're aiming for 4x4ft, none of these are really going to be big enough. (How big is Jared?)

So instead, If you have some time, I recommend doing what I did- go to a store where you can buy a cheap shelf (I got mine at Biglots, but if you live near a big city I bet you could find a good one at the Goodwill). You need to line it with something to prevent moisture from getting to the wood- I used a cut up camping tarp, but I've seen people use shower curtains or linoleum too. I glued mine to the wood using silicon glue, but I bet you could use nails too.
Then you just fill it with substrate, and give him lots of things to climb on/around/in, and you will have the happiest tort ever!
One issue with using bookshelves is that the backing on cheap shelves now is usually cardboard/condensed cardboard, so it's not strong enough to sit on a table unless the whole thing is supported. So, they either need to sit on the floor, or you could re-enforce the back with a big, flat piece of wood. Or, just make sure to buy a bookshelf with a strong wooden back.
Here's a link to the one I built:

(You have to scroll down to see it, it's at the bottom)

And here's a really cool bookshelf enclosure:

I can't really tell from that picture what kind of lighting source you have- I see a tube, which I assume is the UVB/UVA- do you have a heat lamp too?

Good luck!

If you click on the picture it makes it bigger. Then you can see that there is also a light fixture in the front right corner. And on the bigger picture you can see the size of the tortoise. So the only place he has to go to get out of the light is in his cute little tent. I'm not quite sure if the back right corner has a CHE or if that's just part of the front light fixture. But in my opinion, its way too much for such a small container.

Kayti: Thanks for sharing your bookshelf with this thread. I really shouldn't criticize someone's habitat unless I can offer a better suggestion, and you did that for me! :D

Freeimagehosting.net is not loading on my computer for some reason :/
Is there another site I could use? Or I could email them to you?

And I think a 30 cm tortoise would be happiest in an enclosure made out of a shelf- like around 1 meter by 2 meters. I don't know anything about buying book shelves in Iran though!
My tortoises are about 8 centimeters long, and they live in an enclosure that's about 7 ft2 (.650 square meters.) They could really use more space, but this amount at least allows them to take advantage of the temperature gradients in the enclosure, so they can thermoregulate. The bigger the better, within reason, because exercise is really good for tortoises.
Good luck!
