is this ok for my russian?

season is changing and i am starting to feed my russian more and more grocery store greens. but he seems to LOVE the "hearts" of the lettuce. not very much the leafy part but the crunchy, watery part. is this ok for him to eat? or should i only offer the greens and take out his oh so cherished crunchy favorites?

I really only give Wilbur the green leafy parts of the lettuce. I am not sure that the crunchy watery parts have much nutritional value.
